Greetings future nurses and fellow GANS members!

I sincerely hope you are looking forward to October and the great convention the GANS board has in store for you! As chair of the Convention Site Planning committee for this year’s convention, I can assure you we have been working hard to bring you another FANTASTIC and EXCITING convention!

This years theme: “Spring into Nursing… Fall into Your Career” represents the eagerness and excitement that we all experience as we begin our journey into the nursing world with big plans and fresh ideas. As well as the was we fall into our career of choice as leaders, excellent care givers, and advocates. The them is also a play on our yearly seasons and represents the way we as nurses can keep our career exciting by getting involved in something new in the Spring by the way of furthering your education, community service, or even political involvement, and to be in love with it by the Fall.

This year’s convention will be held from October 14-16, 2010 at Columbus Georgia Convention and Trade Center in downtown Columbus, Georgia. GANS members can reserve hotel rooms at the Columbus Marriott, which is conveniently located across the street from the convention center, for less than $130.00+tax a night from now until September 22, 2010.

GANS has so many wonderful events planned for the 2010 Convention! When you arrive on Thursday join us for an exciting keynote address at the Opening Ceremony that will be given by Rebecca Wheeler, past NSNA President and current GNA Secretary. Thursday night will be a free night for you to wind down after traveling and get some studying done for Monday’s exam.

On Friday night after attending numerous review sessions, focus sessions, the newly expanded exhibit hall, Silent Auction, and the House of Delegates. Friday night attendees will have the chance to compete for prizes at our first annual NCLEX Bowl, so come dressed to represent your nursing institute to support your fellow competing peers. This will be a night to relax, enjoy some good food and music, mingle, make new friends, and of course, parade the banners! There will be chance to win prizes for the most creative costume as well as a prize for the most creative banner!

Saturday night after you have enjoyed the rest of the convention, we will wrap up the fun and excitement with the Annual Awards Banquet. Again this year, attendees will have the opportunity to win hundreds of dollars in scholarships and financial awards, in addition to cash door prizes just for attending. Come and support your fellow nursing students and enjoy our inspiring endnote speaker. Attire is semi-formal for the Banquet.

The GANS board has been working hard securing speakers from all avenues of nursing. Our speaker topics include: Pharmacology, NCLEX review, Critical Care Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and much, more! Please contact me with any questions, concerns, comments, and/or suggestions. Remember, the deadline to pre-register* for the best rates, and to ensure you receive a bag and T-shirt from our sponsors, is September 20, 2010.
