Community Service Update
2010 Community Health Theme
This year the National Student Nurses Association’s theme for Community Health is Get Fit, Stay Fit: Wellness, Fitness and Prevention. The wonderful thing about this theme is how wide-reaching it is; it will allow you to explore almost any project you can dream up! In addition, I would encourage you all to think about how you can make your Community Health project “green”. As nursing students we learn how to care for patients and their families and we can (and should) extend this conscientous attitude to the environment we all live in!
Please feel free to contact Mary Steimer, GANS Community Health Director, at gans.community@gmail.com for any questions or support.
Look for more details to come on community health project ideas and award applications!

Holiday Party at Inner Harbour
On December 13, 2009 the GANS annual Holiday Party was held at Inner Harbour, a childhood behavioral health residential treatment program in Douglasville, GA. GANS board members and the children at Inner Harbour shared laughs while decorating gingerbread men and painting/constructing wooden toys. The children also received healthy snacks and small holiday treat bags prepared by Board members.
What’s new in Community Health?
We’ve finalized our community theme for this year and will be focusing on health promotion and senior citizens. Social isolation is a major mental health concern for seniors. The aim is to have a social event for senior citizens in the Atlanta metropolitan area to attend. Details to follow…
