SIGN UP NOW ON THE GANS JOB BOARD TO RECEIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS REGARDING JOBS, EXTERNSHIPS, AND CURRENT HAPPENINGS

Dear Nursing Students,

Hello! On behalf of the Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS), your state organization under the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), I would like to welcome you to our website. If you currently are a nursing student or are just beginning to think about nursing, I hope that we can help you on your path. It’s a wonderful time to be entering the nursing field and we commend you and wish you the greatest success.

I’d like to take just a moment of your time to explain what your SNA, GANS, and NSNA are all about. Your SNA, or Student Nurses’ Association, is an organization for nursing students to begin to get involved professionally in the nursing field. It offers a number of exciting opportunities for you to develop the leadership skills that will ensure your continued success as a nurse. In addition, through a variety of student meetings and events such as community health, breakthrough to nursing, and political involvement projects, you will be empowered to begin to address important issues in nursing.

GANS stands for the Georgia Association of Nursing Students and is made up of all SNA’s from schools of nursing throughout the state of Georgia. Each year, GANS hosts a state conference that brings together approximately 600 nursing students to conduct a state House of Delegates and to attend a number of personally and professionally enriching activities. This conference alternates between Athens, GA and Columbus, GA. The state board meets monthly throughout the year to plan statewide activities and the convention, and includes similar leadership positions as those found at the SNA (school) level.

NSNA is the National Student Nurses Association and is made up of all registered members from nursing schools throughout the United States, over 50,000 nursing students. If you are a member of NSNA, you are automatically a member of GANS and your school SNA. NSNA also has the same student-leadership positions as those found at the state and often school level. NSNA has a mid-year and annual convention that also involves a House of Delegates and other professional enrichment programs. Again, for more information see www.nsna.org or email me at president@ganursingstudents.org. Membership details and registration is available through your school SNA or online at https://nsnamembership.org.

The opportunities and benefits of membership in your professional student nurse organization cannot be overstated. I encourage each of you to ask questions, join organizations, take on leadership roles, and allow yourself time to foster and expand your interests outside of studying. Please join the NSNA today and get involved. It will be the best thing that you will do in nursing school.

Sincerely,

Martina Minneci, President, Georgia Association of Nursing Students
